Through Australian Eyes
The Philippines as seen by Australian Artist/Photographer
Hernry Bateman

One Workshop Gallery proudly presents a real world
exhibit by Henry Bateman, Through Australian Eyes.

The exhibit will run from March 4 to April 4, 2008.

Bateman's critically-acclaimed career is as colourful
as the captivating story of his own personal life and creative processes. He's been drawing, painting, designing, writing, publishing, directing and producing—as well as taking and re-creating digital
photographic imagery.

After conquering the art scene in his native Australia, Bateman has successfully taken his shows on the road to the US, and now in the Philippines.

Originally trained as an electronics technician, Bateman opted to follow his artist's heart on an action-packed, seat-of-the-pants journey through lighting and stage design for theatres, stage plays and ballets; studios, art schools and galleries; and publishing companies, television stations and his very own ad agency. One of Bateman's recent stops on this journey was a carved mural project for no less than the Australian government's social security agency, which turned out to be a way-post for him towards the wonderful world of digital photography.

As an artist-photographer, Bateman builds on digital photographs via computer manipulation, with emphasis on line, form, and especially colour. He says it allows him to produce a whole new image that reflects the underlying motivation that pushed him to capture that particular moment in the first place. "It is a journey in which the image dictates what directions to take," he explains. "My major contribution is knowing when a
destination has been reached."

Reaching for that destination through this Australian's eyes has got to be one of his—and our—most exciting journeys yet.
