Bonayog and Floirendo Build Home Worlds at One Workshop Gallery

Visual artists Malyn Bonayog and Oscar Floirendo present their visions of "Home Worlds" at One Workshop Gallery beginning May 28, 2009. Featuring Bonayog's richly detailed oil on canvas pieces and Floriendo's smooth and subtle mixed media compositions, "Home Worlds" takes viewers on a journey into the both artists' memories and musings on the vital significance of home, family and the environment.

"Home is where the heart is," quotes Bonayog, "trite as it sounds, this has taken on a heightened meaning for me through the years, because this is where life begins, values are instilled, and history is made and revisited." That Bonayog feels strongly about this concept can be seen in her depictions of old houses as a recurring theme in her work, as well as her emphasis on children and heritage.

Moving from home to the world beyond, Floirendo's work focuses on the surrounding environment: "As an artist, one should have a sense of awareness of his environment and experiences." Stressing the importance of visualising these experiences with skill, conceptualisation and innovation, Floirendo says that for him, capturing these moments is an evolving process.
