Ilocos From 7 Angles

The OWG Creative Centre in Makati offers a fresh, new perspective of “Ilocos: Through the Lens,” in a photography exhibit featuring an exciting range of travel and fashion prints by Rosscapili, Carlo Claudio, Abet Dizon, Julles Roberto, James Uy, Leo Viernes and Lorenz Yatco. Opening on Thursday, June 18, 2009, the exhibit comes on the heels of the hugely successful on-location photography workshop of the same name conducted by art and photography guru Rosscapili last May 22 to 26.

The “Ilocos: Through the Lens” workshop gave Rosscapili, Claudio, Dizon, Roberto, Uy, Viernes and Yatco countless opportunities to shoot the region in all its historic splendour: Paoay Church, the Lighthouse at Cape Bojeador, rock formations at Maira-ira, the wind farms of Bangui, the white sands of Pagudpud and the timeless architecture of Vigan. "A photographer has got to be at the right place at the right time to be able to bring the moment home,” says Rosscapili, “to his exhibit, as well as his portfolio."

The exhibiting photographers received guidance and instruction during the workshop in travel photojournalism, stock photography, fashion editorial, indoor shooting, concept photography and photo documentation. “Ilocos: Through the Lens” completes the entire location photography experience by providing an optimal venue for the photographers to exhibit their work.

The collection offers seven different viewpoints, with images as varied as the backgrounds of the participating artists. Workshop facilitator Rosscapili is an artist and photographer with more than 55 awards and distinctions, among the most recent of which was the 2008 Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) Gold for Photography Journalism at awarding ceremonies in Hyderabad, India. Carlo Claudio has pursued photography since his teens and is a freelance professional photographer. Abet Dizon has been a photographer for some 20 years and is the owner of AED Printing. Julles Roberto has three years of experience as a photographer and is a chief underwriter at Malayan Insurance Co., Inc. James Uy has five years of photography experience and is a vice president at the Primestock Development Corporation. Leo Viernes is affiliated with the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation, while Lorenz Yatco is a photography novice from the University of the East apprenticed to Rosscapili.

“Ilocos: Through the Lens” featuring Rosscapili, Carlo Claudio, Abet Dizon, Julles Roberto, James Uy, Leo Viernes and Lorenz Yatco runs until June 30, 2009 at the OWG Creative Centre Gallery, Ground Floor 2241 La Fuerza Plaza II, Don Chino Roces Ave. corner Sabio St., Makati City. Gallery hours are from 10am to 7pm daily except Sundays. For inquiries, call or fax 819-2074, e-mail inquiry@owg.cc
