Darkest Dreaming
JP Sarmenta

Visual art photographer John Paul M. Sarmenta mounts his second solo exhibition, “Darkest Dreaming” on Tuesday, June 16, 2009 at the OWG Creative Centre in Makati. Featuring his latest collection of dark toned travel photographs, Sarmenta aims to let his viewers “peek into my illusive dreams whenever I create.”

“I want my viewer to focus on the unsaid beauty of things… to show them that there lies beauty in darkness.” Sarmenta says he sees himself as a wandering soul trying to record all his mental images and emotions during his travels. He explains that the images he creates during these journeys are an attempt to give his viewers the experience of a self-propelled movement through space and time. “I want to stir the viewers' soul when they view the series and experience a whole new set of emotions.”

Sarmenta has a BS degree in Management Information Systems from Ateneo de Manila University, and is the sole proprietor of an office space leasing firm. He is also the president of a loans and finance management corporation. Since taking up photography in 2006, Sarmenta has participated in prestigious group exhibitions such as the Philippine International Visual Arts Fest `09 of the National Commission for Culture and the Arts, and the Art Philippines Group Exhibit @ the 12th Graphic Expo. "The Gifts: An Art Photography Exhibit for a Cause" at the Philam Life Building in Manila was his first one-man show.

“Darkest Dreaming” by John Paul M. Sarmenta runs until June 30, 2009 at the OWG Creative Centre Gallery, Ground Floor 2241 La Fuerza Plaza II, Don Chino Roces Ave. corner Sabio St., Makati City.
