Rosscapili’s Coexistence : 34th Solo Exhibition to open on July 17 at The Big & Small Art Gallery

Diversity is the norm in a world where change is the one constant. In the urban jungle, life moves at a rapid-fire pace, with the omnipresent demon of commercialism lurking behind every shot. Fired from every angle and from different perspectives, the shots are aimed at every man, each with his own ideas, preferences and beliefs. One can easily be caught in the crossfire, and allow himself to be continuously bombarded by concepts at odds with his personal convictions. One can also choose to fight back, and struggle against the current. Or, one can simply go with the flow, take each of life’s shots as they come, and open his mind to the option of Coexistence.

As a master in such diverse fields as painting, photography, digital art and printmaking, Rosscapili knows what it means to be able to coexist. After a four-year hiatus from the constant whitewater of 33 one-man painting exhibitions, he has returned to bring his expertise in various fields together in a series of digital archival prints on canvas that could very well be a first by any Filipino artist.

Combining selections from many years of travel and personal shooting sessions, Rosscapili has created montages that could easily have mirrored the sturm und drang of his hectic career. Instead, each print bears contemplative, introspective and provocative witness to his efforts to find some way of achieving harmony in a myriad of opposites: figures and architecture, motion and stills, digital and film, tradition and technology.

Is this not a metaphor for every man’s own efforts to find and establish order in the chaos that is everyday life? Rosscapili himself admits that he wearies of the struggle: “I feel I’m very tired.” But has he succeeded? With every piece in “Coexistence,” any man would say, he has.Rosscapili’s works are owned by various distinguished art collectors, including Senator Ralph Recto, Korina Sanchez, Jean Henri Lhuillier, the Sultan of Qatar, Ambassador Soedarmono of Indonesia, Ambassador Maurice Baker of Singapore, Iya Villania, Oscar Lopez and Kuh Ledesma. His work also graces such corporate collections as CitiBank, Hongkong Airport, Channel Dubai, Shangri-La Hotel Makati, Philippine Airlines, National Panasonic, United Airlines and the Philippine Stock Exchange.

“Coexistence” runs until July 26, 2008 at The Big & Small Art Gallery , SM Megamall 4th Level Mandaluyong City . For information contact 6877425 or Rosscapili Studio at 8192074 email rosscapili@yahoo.com
