May 10 (Monday) - Easy camera operations / Understanding camera tools and functions / Looking out for subjects and the intuitive way to capture them

MAY 12 (Wednesday) - Practical approach in using available lights / Arranging and framing the subject / Playing with white balance / Shooting still life (as subject)

MAY 13 (Thursday) - Aesthetics and ethics in photography / Shooting portrait / Basic photo enhancement and retouching

This 3-night basic photography workshop by Ross Capili is designed using practical teaching methods for would-be photographers of all ages over 18—college students who want to improve their image-making, executives, professionals and other busy people who desire artistic growth by pursuing their passion for photography, or art photographers who wish to advance their careers through further exploration.

  • Open to starting photographers and hobbyists with a Digital Single-Lens Reflex (DSLR) or a basic point-and-shoot camera.
  • With take home assignments, assessments, critiques and image printing.
  • The workshop fee of P3,500.00 (exclusive of VAT) /participant is the total fee for all 3 sessions. All participants will receive a Certification of Workshop Completion, one 8.5x11” Giclee Print and a OneWorkshop Discount / Loyalty Card. Unlimited coffee during the workshop will be served.

About the Artist/Workshop Facilitator

Ross Capili (who signs his work “Rosscapili”) began his love affair with photography during his student days in the 70’s. After studying Drafting Technology, Art Education and Ceramic Technology at PCAT in 1976, he bought his first Pentax k2, which he used for 25 years, by winning his first on-the-spot painting competition in 1977. Following his graduation in 1981 from PWU as a Fine Arts Advertising major, he went on to study Colour Separation Technique in Melbourne, Australia. Since then he has successfully mounted over 30 one-man exhibitions in Manila and in Paris, France. His participation in more than 35 group exhibitions includes his representing the Philippines in ASEAN Art Exhibitions in Fukuoka, Japan and Taipei, Taiwan. Served Philippine Airlines as Art Director for 16 years. He has also accumulated at least 55 awards and distinctions, the latest of which was the Ani ng Sining Presidential Award given at the Manila Hotel last February 28, 2009 by the National Commission for Culture and The Arts; the JOSE VERGARA Medallion for Aesthetics (December 2008); Outstanding Alumnus of Batch `76, Philippine College of Arts and Trades Laboratory High School; the 2008 ANVIL Award for Best Art Calendar (for Pilipinas Shell); and the 2008 PATA Gold Award for Travel Photo Journalism, in Hyderbad, India.
On November 19-23 this year, Rosscapili will represent the country at the 24th Asian International Art Exhibition in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Apart from his work as a visual artist, Rosscapili is also an art educator who runs his own art company and studio ; faculty of De La Salle College of Saint Benilde and TUP Fine Arts ; and a columnist for the Manila Bulletin’s photography supplement, Picture Perfect. He is also a member of the Visual Arts Committee and the Executive Council of the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) and Co-Chair of Federation of Asian Artists

Rosscapili’s works are owned by various distinguished art collectors, including Senator Ralph Recto, Korina Sanchez, Jean Henri Lhuillier, the Sultan of Qatar, Ambassador Soedarmono of Indonesia, Ambassador Maurice Baker of Singapore, Iya Villania, Oscar Lopez and Kuh Ledesma. His work also graces such corporate collections as CitiBank, Hongkong Airport, Channel Dubai, Shangri-La Hotel Makati, Philippine Airlines, National Panasonic, United Airlines and the Philippine Stock Exchange. He has also been featured in art coffee table books such as Art Philippines, 20th Century Filipino Artists, Directory of Filipino Artists and the Art Collectors Guide Book.

Rosscapili maintains his photography and fine art giclee printing studio showroom at OneWorkshop in LRI Design Plaza, and his painting and multimedia studio at Dian St, both in Makati City.
